Action Plan - Quality of drinking water in relation to the presence of lead
The City of Dollard-des-Ormeaux has implemented an action plan for the quality of drinking water in relation to the presence of lead.

During the week, if a request for a water analysis is made to the Montreal Laboratory, the notice will be added to the list of notices from the City of Montreal on their website. Residential work
A permit must be obtained and administrative charges paid for every new aqueduct connection to the public sewer system. Please refer to our By-law R-2014-05 for additional questions or contact the Engineering Division at 514-684-1033.
If you need to have your water valve closed or opened when planning repairs or renovations, we ask that you call Public Works at least 48 hours before starting the work, to make an appointment, Monday to Friday. This will allow us to verify the condition of the water valve box and will help us in planning our work.
For emergencies outside of business hours, please call the Patrol at 514-684-6111.
We also recommend that you ask for an inspection of the water valve box prior to any landscaping, to ensure that it is functional.
Fluoride
The water supplied by the Pointe-Claire water filtration plant contains fluoride (see list of streets). The water supplied by Pierrefonds/Roxboro plant does not.

The water pressure in the City is approximately 50 to 60 pounds/in² (or PSI).
Chlorine odour
The main purpose of chlorine is to sanitize water. This element evaporates rapidly and contributes to good water quality. To remove chlorine odour, simply fill a container with water and place it in the refrigerator.
Earthy taste
Your water sometimes has an earthy taste. This is due to the presence of algae in the river, mainly in summer, when water temperatures are higher. Although treatment is applied to eliminate algae from drinking water, as well as the associated tastes and odors, an earthy taste may persist for as long as it takes to renew the circulating water. This is not a health hazard.
To reduce the odour and taste of your water, place the water jugs in the refrigerator.

Cloudy water
Blurred water is often the result of air bubbles. You just need to let the water stand for a few minutes. It is a normal condition especially during water temperature changes (for example season changes).
Coloured water (yellow or rust)
If the hot water is yellow or rusty, it is probably caused by the wearing out of your water heater. Call a plumber.
If the cold water is yellow or rusty, it may be caused by the use of a fire hydrant or the reopening of a water valve after aqueduct work. Let the cold water run in your bathtub for 30 minutes to 1 hour and the water should come back clear. If the coloured water persists, please contact Public Works or the Patrol service (see section « Service concerned » below).
To avoid staining your clothes, flush the water in your washing machine before doing the laundry. A special soap is also available to remove stains.
Yearly flushing of fire hydrants
Fire hydrants are usually flushed during the summer. Please check your water after the hydrants have been flushed in your area. For more information please contact the City Hall front desk at 514 684-1010.
