The City of Dollard-des-Ormeaux has officially adopted the Municipal Charter for the Protection of Children, joining a provincial movement that places the well-being and safety of children at the heart of municipal priorities.

The symbolic signing took place at the May 13 municipal council meeting, in the presence of the mayor, municipal councillors, general management and several community partners. This public commitment confirms the city’s desire to provide a safe, caring and stimulating environment for all its young citizens. The Charter will be officially launched on May 15, at the occasion of the International Day of Families.

As part of this commitment, the city is already taking concrete action through various initiatives, such as the development of safe parks, the implementation of traffic calming measures around schools and the promotion of safety and respect awareness programs. We also encourage children’s participation in municipal life, recognizing their right to express themselves and to be heard.

“Protecting and empowering children is a shared responsibility,” said Mayor Alex Bottausci. “By adopting this Charter, we are taking concrete steps to build an even more caring, inclusive, and child-friendly community.”

Dollard-des-Ormeaux joins the growing list of municipalities responding to the call from Fortierville, the municipality that launched this Quebec-wide initiative. By adhering to the Charter, Dollard-des-Ormeaux reaffirms its commitment to taking concrete action so that every child can grow up in a healthy, safe environment that is conducive to his or her development.
