Montr\u00e9al\u2019s West Island, Hydro-Qu\u00e9bec has launched a major project to contribute to increase capacity at Saint-Jean substation in Dollard-des-Ormeaux.\u00a0<\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-3218030 elementor-widget elementor-widget-text-editor\" data-id=\"3218030\" data-element_type=\"widget\" data-e-type=\"widget\" data-widget_type=\"text-editor.default\">\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-widget-container\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\tWork to convert\u00a0Saint-Jean\u00a0substation to 315\/25&#xA0;kV began in 2021.\u00a0The substation currently serves\u00a0some\u00a05,900&#xA0;households and businesses in Dollard-des-Ormeaux, Pointe-Claire,\u00a0Kirkland\u00a0and Beaconsfield.\u00a0With local energy needs\u00a0on the rise,\u00a0Hydro-Qu\u00e9bec must upgrade the power system\u00a0to\u00a0improve\u00a0service quality.\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-d29cb5d elementor-widget elementor-widget-menu-anchor\" data-id=\"d29cb5d\" data-element_type=\"widget\" data-e-type=\"widget\" data-widget_type=\"menu-anchor.default\">\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-widget-container\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-menu-anchor\" id=\"planned-work\"><\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-5d942a6 elementor-widget elementor-widget-heading\" data-id=\"5d942a6\" data-element_type=\"widget\" data-e-type=\"widget\" data-widget_type=\"heading.default\">\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-widget-container\">\n\t\t\t\t\t<h2 class=\"elementor-heading-title elementor-size-default\">Planned work<\/h2>\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-a30d32d elementor-widget elementor-widget-text-editor\" data-id=\"a30d32d\" data-element_type=\"widget\" data-e-type=\"widget\" data-widget_type=\"text-editor.default\">\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-widget-container\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<p>The work will unfold in multiple stages\u00a0over the next four years,\u00a0and will include:<\/p><ul><li>Dismantling\u00a0of\u00a0the remaining 12-kV equipment<\/li><\/ul><ul><li>Addition of\u00a0electrical equipment,\u00a025-kV\u00a0capacitor banks and\u00a0a third\u00a0315\/25-kV\u00a0transformer<\/li><\/ul><ul><li>Expansion of\u00a0the\u00a0control\u00a0building to house the new 25-kV\u202fequipment<\/li><\/ul><ul><li>Connection of\u00a0multiple\u00a0underground lines to supply Montr\u00e9al\u2019s West Island\u00a0more efficiently<\/li><\/ul><p><br \/>Most of\u00a0the work will take place on\u00a0land\u00a0owned by Hydro-Qu\u00e9bec. However, two\u00a0nearby\u00a0municipal\u00a0lots will also be\u00a0used\u00a0during the project, primarily for materials storage\u00a0and secure\u00a0site access.\u00a0One\u00a0of these\u00a0sits at the intersection of De Salaberry and Saint-Jean; the\u00a0other\u00a0lies\u00a0to the\u00a0east of that\u00a0intersection\u00a0within the\u00a0transmission line\u00a0right-of-way\u00a0along De Salaberry.<\/p><p>Hydro-Qu\u00e9bec\u00a0will implement\u00a0a mobility management plan\u00a0to limit the impact of\u00a0the\u00a0work and\u00a0jobsite facilities on automobile,\u00a0pedestrian\u00a0and\u00a0bicycle\u00a0traffic.\u00a0The company\u00a0will also\u00a0introduce\u00a0measures\u00a0to\u00a0appropriately manage\u00a0noise,\u00a0dust\u00a0and\u00a0lighting.<\/p><p>The\u00a0two municipal\u00a0lots are expected to be\u00a0in service\u00a0from April 1,\u00a02026,\u00a0to December\u00a031,\u00a02029.<\/p><p><strong>Work to be completed in\u00a02030<\/strong><\/p><p>The work is expected to continue until 2030. Once complete, the project will improve grid robustness and ensure a more\u00a0reliable\u00a0power\u00a0supply to the area\u2019s homes and businesses.<\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-7c11dc2 elementor-widget elementor-widget-menu-anchor\" data-id=\"7c11dc2\"
