To provide a more efficient, safer and more environmentally friendly service, our City is preparing to switch to mechanized waste collection. Why switch to mechanized waste collection?

The gray wheeled bin
The new bin is specially designed to be lifted by the mechanical arm of the collection trucks.
Once mechanized waste collection begins, the gray wheeled bin provided by the City will become the only approved container for the collection of non-recyclable and non-compostable waste.
What will no longer be accepted
Once mechanized waste collection begins in 2027, the following will no longer be accepted:
- garbage bags placed directly on the ground;
- traditional round garbage cans;
- non-compliant wheeled bins;
- waste placed beside the bin.
How to place your bin
New! Monthly collection of bulky items
With the launch of mechanized waste collection, a separate bulky item collection will be offered once a month.
This service will allow you to dispose of items that cannot be placed in your gray bin, such as furniture, mattresses and other large items.
Details about the new collection service and the schedule will be communicated before its launch.

No. The bin will be delivered to your home automatically. No registration or request is required.
No. The gray wheeled bin will be provided and delivered by the City to every eligible residential address. The bin is tied to the address and must remain there if you move.
No. Your bin will be delivered directly to your home, even if you are not there at the time of delivery.
The bin will be placed at the front of your residence, in your driveway or near your door. A best practices guide will be provided with the bin.
Simply check the front of your residence during the delivery period (dates to be confirmed).
If you have not received your bin by the end of the delivery period, contact us and we will look into the situation.
Take a photo of the bin, if possible, and contact us. We will arrange for a replacement.
The size of the bin provided is designed to meet the standard needs of most households. If you have special circumstances (a very large family, a medical condition that generates more waste), a bin exchange may be authorized following a review of your situation.
Appropriate solutions, such as shared wheeled bins or containers, will be assessed with your building manager for multi-unit residential buildings. We encourage you to contact your building manager to discuss your situation.
You can start using the new gray wheeled bin as soon as you receive it. Until the official launch of the mechanized waste collection, planned for 2027, you can also continue using your other bins.
The bin lid must be completely closed to prevent waste from being scattered and to allow for mechanical lifting. If you regularly run out of space, we encourage you to make the most of your blue recycling and brown compost bins. Occasional excess waste should be taken to the Ecocentre.
Starting in 2027, bulky item collection will take place once a month according to a set schedule (link to the schedule, if available). Until then, you can continue placing bulky items beside your garbage on your regular collection day.
You can keep them for other household uses, such as storage or collecting rainwater, or take them to the Ecocentre.

Buildings with 9 or more units
No. No registration or request is required. The City will determine the number and size of bins to be provided based on the characteristics of your building and the number of units.

A transition period will follow the distribution of the bins. If you find that the bins provided do not meet the needs of your building, you can contact the Info-Collection team so that your situation can be assessed.
You can continue using your existing containers during the transition period. Once the mechanized collection begins in 2027, only the provided gray bins, which comply with the new system, will be accepted.
Institutions, Businesses and Industries (IBIs)
Yes. Establishments served by the municipal collection service will receive gray wheeled bins that are compatible with the new mechanized collection system.
The number and size of bins will be determined based on the characteristics and needs of each establishment.
No. No registration or request is required for establishments included in the distribution.
No. Establishments that use a container or a private collection service are not affected by this change. They can continue using their current service and will not receive new bins from the City.
