The City wishes to raise awareness among residents about the value of water and the importance of reducing water consumption. Less than 1% of the Earth’s water supply can be used as drinking water.
Thank you for using water efficiently and helping to prevent waste.
What makes our water so good?
The water you drink comes from the Pierrefonds water treatment plant and is drawn from Rivière des Prairies. Some of the treated water also comes from the Pointe-Claire water treatmentplant, which draws its water from Lake Saint-Louis.
Here are the treatment steps that ensure the water you consume is of excellent quality.
Reducing your drinking water consumption is easy!
Indoors
- Choose a dual-flush, low-consumption toilet certified WaterSense.
- Take a 5-minute shower instead of a bath.
- Use the dishwasher or washing machine only when they are full.
- Turn off the tap while brushing your teeth, shaving or washing the dishes.
- Install a water meter to help detect toilet and faucet leaks.
Outdoors
- Water early in the morning or later in the evening to avoid water loss due to evaporation.
- Avoid automatic and continuous lawn watering.
- Use a hose equipped with a manual trigger device.
- Wash the vehicle with a bucket of soapy water and limit the use of the hose to rinsing only.
- Sweeping an entrance is an effective solution that preserves drinking water.
