Why recycle?
Sorting our materials and recycling helps reduce waste at the source and gives materials a second life.
The City’s recyclable materials collection aims at mixed recycling of glass, plastic, metal, and paper. The success of this program relies on the informed participation of each household and adherence to collection guidelines, both in terms of selecting recyclable materials and proper use of the bins.
Collection day
Single family dwellings, apartments, condominiums, schools, daycares:
Mondays, between 7 a.m. and 6 p.m.
Preparing for collection
- The blue bin must be placed at the curb between 7 p.m. on Sunday and 7 a.m. on Monday.
- The wheels and handles of the bin must be facing the residence, at the curb or edge of the sidewalk (do not place it on the street or on the sidewalk).
- The bin must be clean (resident's responsibility).
Since January 1, 2025, the recovery of recyclable materials has been the responsibility of Éco Entreprises Québec throughout the province. To find out what goes in your blue bin, all you have to do is ask yourself: is it a container, packaging or printed matter? If you answer yes, the material goes in your blue recycling bin.
Materials accepted in the blue bin
- Containers: these generally come with a cap or lid.
- Packaging: used to easily transport a product
- Printed matter: paper and other fibres with text, motifs or images
Any container, packaging or printed matter made of plastic, paper/cardboard, glass or metal goes in the blue recycling bin! This includes all flexible plastic bags and packaging (that stretch or not), all rigid plastic containers (no. 1 to no. 7) and Food-grade polystyrene containers and packaging (e.g. trays used for meat or fish, coffee cups, etc.).
Exceptions to bring to the ecocentre
- Aerosols (because they are explosive products)
- Polystyrene (Styrofoam) protective packaging: you can bring it to one of our annual mobile HHW collections
- Battery
- Syringe
- Garden hose
- Garden chairs
- Toy
- Saucepan
- Clothing and fabric
The right moves
- Empty and lightly rinse the containers.
- Remove lids from jars and containers, except for small caps.
- Separate the materials making up the packaging (e.g. a bag of cereals in a box).
- Pellet aluminium foil even if it is slightly soiled before putting it in your bin.
- Unpack and fold your cardboard boxes.
