It is with deep sadness that we learned of the passing of William J. Cosgrove on September 23. A talented engineer and dedicated member of our City’s planning committee, he left a lasting impact on our community through his visionary spirit and steadfast commitment. His innovative project to create an artificial lake to serve as a retention basin for excessive rainfall transformed much more than just our infrastructure: the excavated earth was used to create a sledding hill enjoyed by all, and a vantage point overlooking our beautiful William Cosgrove Centennial Park.
Today, this iconic park, with its woodlands, tranquil lake, enchanting trails and lively playgrounds, is a gathering place that embodies his enduring legacy. His vision not only shaped a natural space where the community comes together, but also a place where wildlife, flora and future generations can thrive.
“The council feels deeply indebted to Mr. Cosgrove. With all his contributions to the city, Mr. Cosgrove has left a lasting legacy that will continue to inspire the lives of our residents for generations to come. His passion for the environment and his dedication to our community have transformed our city into a wonderful place to live, and for that we are infinitely grateful.”, expressed Mayor Alex Bottausci.
Our deepest sympathies go out to his family and loved ones during this difficult time.
