June 11, 2024 – Update from the City of Montreal – Partial reopening of the Pitfield twin bridges

The City of Montreal informs us that it will proceed with the opening of one traffic lane on each bridge, with limitations. No overloaded trucks will be allowed on the structures.

Removal of the obstructions will take place on Tuesday night and the lanes will be open to traffic for the morning rush hour on June 12, 2024.

This update follows a precautionary closure of bridges requested by the City of Montreal on May 31 following a general inspection that highlighted an evolution of cracks already present on the 2 structures. Inspection work was carried out to rule on the condition of the bridges. The results allow partial reopening of both bridges, with load restrictions for heavy goods vehicles.

Reinforcement work will be planned by the City of Montreal crews and will have to be carried out at a later date.

The City of Montreal has informed us that it will proceed with the preventive closure of the Pitfield twin bridges in the borough of Pierrefonds to ensure public safety.

A general inspection revealed a significant increase in shear cracks on the bridges. After analysis of the data, it has been determined that both bridges must be closed to all traffic by the end of the day, this Friday, May 31, for an indefinite period.

Motorists are invited to use the following detour route: Gouin Boulevard to Sunnybrooke Boulevard, then Highway 40 eastbound to join A-13 (see map).

We thank you for your understanding and cooperation in this situation, which is beyond our control.
