Job Description

The work consists of checking, repairing, adjusting and maintaining City-owned vehicles, motorized equipment and accessories.

In performing his or her duties on City vehicles, equipment and motorized devices, the incumbent must be able to diagnose the causes of breakdowns when these have not been previously indicated to him or her. In addition, he/she must carry out, in accordance with the rules of the trade, the mechanical work involved in repairing and bringing into good working order the unit entrusted to him/her.

Example of tasks:

  • Identify and assess mechanical faults, determine causes and decide whether parts need to be replaced, repaired or remanufactured.
  • Maintain and repair engines, transmissions and other components of the city’s light and heavy vehicles, including snowblowers and mowers.
  • Balance wheels and replace defective steering and suspension parts.
  • Perform minor maintenance on exhaust systems.
  • Replace cooling and heating system components.
  • Diagnose and replace vehicle electrical components.
  • Carry out minor bodywork and paintwork repairs.
  • Use oxy-acetylene flashlights and perform minor welding.
  • Perform inspections required by the Société de l’assurance automobile du Québec.
  • Keep equipment and work areas clean.

Qualifications required

  • Hold a vocational diploma (DEP) in construction equipment mechanics or heavy vehicle mechanics
  • Five (5) years of experience as a heavy-duty vehicle or construction equipment mechnanic
  • Be able to read, write and speak French;
  • Hold a valid driver’s licence issued by the Société de l’assurance automobile du Québec, class 3 with F-M endorsement or obtain it during the probation period upon hiring
  • Possess a valid Construction Health and Safety card or obtain it during the probation period upon hiring
  • Vehicle maintenance program accreditation is an asset

Employment status

  • Permanent position – 36 hours per week
  • Evening schedule:
  • Monday to Thursday from 2:30 p.m. to 10:15 p.m. and Friday from 11:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m.
  • Hourly salary: $39.18 plus evening premium of $1.41/hour
