Since 1 January 2025, the modernisation of selective collection, steered by Éco Entreprises Québec (ÉEQ), has brought a number of important changes.

Rigid or expanded polystyrene, often called Styrofoam, used as a protective material in the packaging of furniture, electronic appliances or other products, is not accepted in the blue bin. Unlike food-grade polystyrene, this material breaks up easily into small balls that can contaminate other recyclable materials.

Where should polystyrene protective packaging be disposed of?

Polystyrene protective packaging (Styrofoam) should be taken to an ecocentre for proper treatment, or brought to one of the annual mobile collections.
