How to report domestic violence

Share

When a person is a victim of domestic violence, all his or her bearings can be shaken. It is therefore essential to know how to denounce the act or how to support the victim by allowing him or her to verbalize his or her fears and by answering questions.

To this end, the SPVM has created the video below, explaining the steps involved in reporting a criminal offence in a context of domestic violence in Montreal, from the complaint to the police services to the trial in court. This video is available in 17 different languages as well as in Quebec sign language on the SPVM website. In addition, an accompanying guide (available in French only) provides additional information to the video for interveners as well as references to victim support resources.
