Demolition and construction work on the chalet at Centennial Park began on Tuesday, October 8, and will continue until the end of August 2025.
Update of April 15, 2025:
Work is progressing well, and the project has reached an important milestone: interior work is now underway. Teams are busy installing mechanical and electrical systems, putting up partitions, and completing various interior fittings.
As soon as weather conditions allow, exterior work will resume: roofing, siding, landscaping, paving stones, pathways, and more.
The opening is scheduled for the end of summer 2025.
Update of January 23, 2025: the chalet structure is progressing well and should be completed within the next two weeks. Interior systems have also advanced, and progress will accelerate as soon as the roof is installed and the structure waterproofed.
- Centennial Park, its trails, play areas, dog park and parking lot remain available and activities can take place there.
- Restrooms are available and located near the parking lot.
- A trailer has been installed to serve as a changing room for skating activities on the Centennial Park ice ring.
- Access to the main trail has been maintained (see map).
Pedestrian access during construction
The chalet in Centennial Park, built over 50 years ago, is an important meeting place for our community. Over the years, the City has found that this building had reached the end of its useful life and no longer met the needs of our residents, particularly in terms of accessibility.
In-depth analyses were carried out to evaluate the options, but the structure’s dilapidated state made simple repair insufficient. True to its commitment to serve all residents well, the City then undertook to rethink this space, taking into account its current uses and anticipating future needs.
We are proud to announce that the decision has been made to completely renovate the chalet, and to see this project come to fruition to provide a more welcoming, safe and accessible space for our entire community.
