After several weeks of clean-up operations throughout the city, please note that the special flood-related collections will end on October 7. Collection will be carried out for requests received before this date. You can continue disposing of your materials and bulky items at an ecocentre on the island of Montreal or by regular waste collections, according to the usual conditions.

To find out the extent of the water infiltration that occurred on our territory, the City of Dollard-des-Ormeaux has set up a registry in which you can enter your contact details (name, address, etc.) and the type of damage caused.
If you have filed a claim with the City, we encourage you to also submit your information to our registry, which has been set up for database purposes. Such information will enable us to better deploy our resources in the event of a similar event in the future, guide our infrastructure projects and provide data to higher governments in order to raise awareness of the need to extend assistance programs offered to disaster-stricken municipalities.

Need to rebuild your basement after the August 9 torrential rains?
We are aware that many of our residents were affected by water infiltration after the torrential rains of August 9. Many of them will have to carry out repair or reconstruction work, and we want to make things easier for them.
If this is your case, and you are going to restore your basement to its pre-flood condition, you can proceed with the work without obtaining a permit from the City. If the work requires a container for construction materials, we ask that you place it in your driveway or on your property, and not on the street. Please ensure that the work is carried out in compliance with current regulations and standards.
However, if you are planning repair work that involves modifications to your basement (adding a bathroom or bedroom, or altering the structure of the building, for example), a permit may be required. Friday August 30: End of special clean-up operations following torrential rains
Over the past three weeks, the City has made extraordinary efforts to help citizens affected by the torrential rains of August 9. Aware of the challenges you have had to face, the City has decided to offer you some respite by organizing a special collection, making it easier for you to dispose of the debris and materials that accumulated up to August 30.
As of Monday, September 2, regular garbage collection operations will resume as usual.
A few reminders about garbage collection parameters:
- Bulky items (sofa, furniture, cupboard, etc.): accepted at all times.
- Materials for construction: conditionally accepted. They must not exceed 2 feet by 4 feet and must be able to be picked up quickly. A few bags, pieces of gypsum and planks of wood are acceptable.
- Closed, leak-proof containers: strongly recommended to facilitate collection operations, but not mandatory.
Do you still have debris or materials that do not comply with regular collection ? Here are a few solutions:
- Bring them to one of Montreal’s ecocentres.
- Make a regular request for special refuse collection online or by calling 514-684-1010 (please note that longer-than-usual delays are to be expected).

August 22, 2024 - Update on the clean-up operations and end date
Since the very beginning, crews from the City of Dollard-des-Ormeaux have been deploying this exceptional debris collection service for its citizens, helping to speed up the clean-up of the territory.
Debris collection is well underway, and a second round of collection throughout the city will have been completed by the end of this week. City services will therefore gradually resume routine operations, and this special clean-up operation will officially come to an end on Friday August 30.
August 19, 2024 - Update on the clean-up operations
For the second consecutive week, the City of Dollard-des-Ormeaux is continuing debris collection, following the water infiltration that occurred on August 9.
The priority will be to ensure that household waste collection is completed, before any remaining debris can be removed. Collection operations will continue until 11pm.

Waste collection is underway and will continue until 11 p.m. tonight and tomorrow from 7 a.m. to 4 p.m.

August 15, 2024 - Update on the clean-up operations
Clean-up operations are progressing well.
We are aware that some residents have not received the usual waste collection service. For this reason, clean-up operations will continue until 11 p.m. this evening and Friday night. Please leave your garbage bags at the curb, as the contractor will complete the collection within the next few days.
We expect the first round of debris collection, following the water infiltration, to be completed by Saturday, as our crews continue to scour the streets.

August 14, 2024 - Parking and Ressources

Considering that many households are using their driveways to carry out necessary clean-up work following the water infiltration, the City of Dollard-des-Ormeaux authorizes overnight parking on the street until further notice.

Additional trucks have been mobilized for clean-up operations, which will continue on weekdays until 11 p.m., and on weekends until the entire territory has been cleaned up.
August 13, 2024 - Clean-up operations - Materials not accepted at the curb - Flood zone
Clean-up operations underway:
After the heavy rainfall last Friday, and the flooding that occurred in homes, the City is taking charge of clean-up operations throughout the territory. Special collection operations began this morning and will continue throughout the week, both with our contractors and City crews.
You may hear noise or see trucks passing until late in the evening, around 10-11 p.m., given the exceptional circumstances. It is important to note that these operations may take some time, given the amount of the waste to be collected across the territory.
Materials not accepted at the curb:
Household hazardous waste (HHW): Do not dispose of paint cans, oil, batteries, etc. with your household garbage. Bring them to the next mobile collection on September 8, or to a secure drop-off location.
Electronics: Do not put them out on the street. Drop them off at our drop-off location at 100 Glenmore St., at an ecocenter, or at a business that can dispose of them properly, such as Canadian Tire or Best Buy.
Flood zone:
According to the Montreal agglomeration, the city of Dollard-des-Ormeaux is not located in a flood zone.

August 12, 2024 - General Information
The remnants of Hurricane Debby resulted in an unprecedented 154 mm of rain on the island of Montreal, resulting in property damage and losses for many households.
Here’s what you need to know if your house was affected by the flood.
- No boil-water advisories have been issued to date, making drinking water safe to consume.
- Please follow the Quebec’s guidelines for cleaning up after a flooding incident: What to do after a flood | Gouvernement du Québec (quebec.ca)
- Contact your insurer and follow their instructions to assure you can properly submit a claim. Often these instructions include documenting the damages by taking photos or videos.
- If you need to dispose of items from your basement that were destroyed by the flooding, the City will be passing by in the next few days to collect these items. Everything to be collected must be placed on your property next to the road.
We will update you as more information becomes available.
Claim Request
According to the Cities and Towns Act, any person wishing to claim damages with the City must do so in writing, within 15 days following the event.
Due to the torrential rains that caused water infiltration in some properties in our city, residents who wish to submit a claim form have until Saturday, August 24, 2024 to do so (by postal mailing or by e-mail).
