Good news: the Corbeille de pain organization is setting up a solidarity market in our city, with the aim of providing better access to fresh fruit and vegetables on the West Island.
These solidarity markets not only make nutritious food more accessible to people in vulnerable situations, they also promote the local economy by sourcing from local farmers and paying them a fair price. Corbeil de pain is proud to say that the average distance covered by the fruits and vegetables available at the market is between 30 and 50 km.
The model is “pay what you can”, allowing market participants to pay a fairer price according to their own financial situation. The Proximity Card is accepted at all their markets. If you are able, you can “pay it forward” by paying more than the advertised price for your food. This “extra” will then be used to help your fellow West Islanders who are more vulnerable.
