Fire Station 61 opens its doors after big renovations. The building has been expanded and upgraded, allowing it to stay on the cutting edge of technology in order to better serve the community.
The renovation of the fire station brought the building up to code structurally, architecturally, mechanically and electrically, meeting the community’s needs. The City, forever concerned about the environment, took advantage of the opportunity and added sustainable development features, including a geothermal system and solar panels. This initiative has resulted in energy savings as well as increased comfort for the occupants of the fire station.
The expansion of the fire station also made it possible to accommodate an Emergency Operations Centre (EOC) on the site. This is the place where the coordination of activities and support to responders during major disasters is carried out. In addition, fire station 61 is equipped with a hermetically sealed decontamination area adapted to the new standards. It joins the Municipal Patrol and the Service de sécurité incendie de Montréal, which have shared the building since the 1980s.
“I’m happy to be able to present this fire station, which addresses my two biggest concerns: the safety of residents and respect for the environment,” explains Alex Bottausci, Mayor of Dollard-des-Ormeaux.
Following the official inauguration of Fire Station 61, the public will be invited to an Open House on Saturday, October 8, from 8:30 a.m. to 4:00 p.m.
