The City of Dollard-des-Ormeaux is compelled to cancel the public information session scheduled for August 6 regarding the torrential rainfall and resulting flooding in certain areas of the City on June 20. This decision follows the recent filing of an application for authorization to institute a class action against the City.
In these circumstances, the City has a responsibility to protect the rights of the community as a whole, while respecting the integrity of the ongoing judicial process. Although this application for authorization to institute a class action must first be reviewed by the Court to determine whether it will be authorized, it raises issues that concern the community at large. In these circumstances, prudence requires the City to limit public statements to preserve the integrity of the judicial process.
“We sincerely regret having to cancel this meeting. Our intention has always been to keep residents informed with transparency and diligence. However, given the ongoing legal proceedings, we must act judiciously to respect the process and protect the interests of the community. Despite this decision, we remain committed to communicating with residents within the limits permitted by this new context,” said Mayor Alex Bottausci
Despite the cancellation of this public information session, the City remains attentive to residents’ concerns. Residents are invited to submit their questions to ville@ddo.qc.ca. Questions received will help inform a Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ) section to be published on the City’s platforms. The City will also continue to communicate through its official information channels and will make public any information that can appropriately be shared under the circumstances.
