A beautiful transformation is taking place at Centennial Park! An edible forest made up of approximately 95 fruit trees and edible shrubs was recently planted.
This initiative, led by our Parks and Green Spaces team, aims to strengthen urban biodiversity while encouraging a deeper connection with nature and local food systems.
The project was carried out in collaboration with the GRAME organization, with support from La Fondation Green Cities.
The goal? To create a sustainable, accessible, and nourishing space for residents.
The Sports and Leisure and Parks and Green Spaces departments are already working together on harvest and redistribution programs, which will be launched once the trees reach maturity.
Fun fact: the planting was done strategically near our urban beehive, installed earlier this year. In this corner of the park, fruit and pollinators now coexist — a natural synergy that reflects the City’s growing green vision.
And this edible forest? It’s just the beginning. More projects are already in the works to make our public green spaces even more vibrant, educational… and nourishing!
