Reducing and sorting our waste is a winner!

During Quebec’s Waste Reduction Week from October 20 to 29, 2023, it is a good idea to remember that it is possible to change our consumption habits. The expression “3RV” is a simple way of reminding ourselves to Reduce at source, Reuse, Recycle and finally Valorize residual materials.

Here are a few practical tips and suggestions for good habits to integrate the brown and blue bins into our daily routine:

Tips for your brown bin:

  • Organize your kitchen with a small organics recycling container for the counter. Empty the contents regularly into your brown bin, in which you will have placed a compost bag.
  • During the summer, to avoid unpleasant odours or grubs, use small compost bags that you can place in your freezer until the next collection.

Tips for your blue bin:

  • What goes in the blue bin? Simple: containers, packaging, printed matter and newspapers.
  • Almost all plastic containers and packaging identified by the numbers 1, 2, 3, 4, 5 and 7 can be put in the bin.

Not sure what to put in your bin?

  • Consult the waste disposal guide below
  • Visit the “Collections” page on our website
  • Download the Ça va où? mobile application

By reducing our waste at source, and using our brown and blue bins properly, we reduce the amount of waste sent to landfill and give a second life to our residual materials.
