Collection delays: concrete measures are in place

Share

The City is closely monitoring the situation regarding collection delays and is actively working with its service provider to ensure that the necessary corrective measures are taken. We are fully aware of the difficulties experienced over the past few weeks and the frustration they may be causing for many residents.

Daily monitoring of the situation

Our teams are monitoring the situation daily, both with the service provider and in the field. The City is applying all measures provided for under the current contract to ensure that the service provider meets its obligations and that the expected level of service is restored.

The service provider has reported challenges related to workforce availability as well as vehicle breakdowns.

For its part, the City has added resources in the field to better monitor collection operations, quickly identify service issues, and ensure they are addressed promptly with the service provider.

Collection services continue to be modernized

At the same time, the City is moving forward with the modernization of its collection services through the implementation of a new mechanized collection system. Beginning in October, residents will start receiving new standardized bins provided by the City. This transition is intended to improve the reliability and quality of collection services over the long term.

Your cooperation matters too

To help collections run smoothly, we also ask everyone to do their part by properly sorting the materials placed in their bins. We have noticed that construction materials and other non-accepted items are sometimes placed with household waste or recycling, which can cause issues during collection.

Proper sorting helps collection crews do their work efficiently and contributes to better service for everyone.

We hear residents’ concerns and continue to monitor this matter very closely. Our efforts are focused both on reducing the current impacts and on implementing solutions that will improve service over the longer term.

In the meantime, we thank residents for their patience and cooperation. We also ask everyone to remain respectful when interacting with City employees. Our teams are working hard to provide information, document reported issues, and ensure the necessary follow-up. They are here to help and, like everyone, deserve to be treated with respect.
