Dear Residents,
Over the past several days, our community has faced one of the most significant flooding events in our city’s history. The impact has been severe and deeply felt across many neighbourhoods. We now know that our city was the most impacted the Greater Montreal area. Homes have been damaged, cars have been lost, personal belongings and irreplaceable mementos have been destroyed, and families are now facing the stress and uncertainty that comes with recovery.
To every resident affected: You are not alone. The City is fully mobilized, and every level of our organization is focused on supporting recovery, restoring services, and helping families to get back on their feet as quickly as possible.
I want to acknowledge the frustration, exhaustion, and anger that many of you are feeling. I am feeling it myself after being flooded for the second time since 2024. That frustration is justified given the scale of what has happened and the disruption still being experienced across our community. You deserve clear answers, timely support, and visible action from your municipal government.
From the outset of this event, our priorities have been: The protection and safety of residents; the coordination of emergency services, damage assessment, and rapid deployment of recovery resources. City crews have been working continuously in the field and behind the scenes to stabilize affected areas and support residents.

As Mayor, I accept full responsibility for ensuring that our response is coordinated, accountable, and responsive to the needs of residents. My focus, and the focus of the entire administration, is on delivering results, not words.
As our crews continue their work, our City teams will continue to collect data and complete damage assessments while residents focus on restoring their homes and lives. In the interim I have asked our administration to assemble a team of experts and representatives who can provide information, answer questions, and participate in an open discussion with residents.
In the coming days, residents will be invited to a Community Information and Discussion Meeting:

During this meeting, we will, together with a panel of experts:
• Review what occurred during this flooding event
• Present the city’s findings and ongoing assessments
• Discuss existing and future mitigation measures
• Answer residents’ questions and hear your concerns and suggestions
• Explore ways we can work together to strengthen our community moving forward
This meeting is an opportunity for us to come together as a community, learn from this experience, and discuss how we can better prepare for future weather-related challenges.

We will continue to provide clear and regular updates as recovery progresses, including information on cleanup operations, service restoration, and ongoing support measures.
I would also like to express my sincere gratitude to the many residents, neighbours, volunteers, and community organizations who have stepped forward to help others during this difficult time. The support shown throughout our community has been truly remarkable.
I also want to thank the cities of Beaconsfield, Dorval, and Kirkland for providing additional personnel and resources to assist with recovery efforts. We are extremely grateful for their support.
Finally, I want to recognize our city employees, emergency responders, and contractors who have been working tirelessly, often around the clock, to assist residents and restore services across the community.
No words can erase the damage that has been done. If there were a way to instantly restore every home, every treasured possession, and every sense of security that has been lost, I would do so without hesitation. While we cannot change what happened, we can ensure that every resident is supported through recovery and that we use this experience to build a stronger, more resilient community.
