New development projects must comply with much stricter stormwater management requirements than those that existed when many areas of the City were originally developed in the 1960s and 1970s.
For several years, the City has required new developments to incorporate stormwater management measures, such as retention basins and other infrastructure designed to temporarily retain stormwater on-site before it is discharged into the municipal storm sewer system.
On March 11, 2026, Council further strengthened these requirements by adopting By-law R-2026-084-1, reducing the maximum permitted discharge rate to the municipal storm sewer system from 15 litres per second per hectare to 10 litres per second per hectare for new principal buildings and several types of development projects.
As Dollard-des-Ormeaux is a fully developed city, new projects generally replace existing buildings or sites. Unlike many older developments, these new projects are required to manage a significant portion of their stormwater on-site before it enters the municipal storm sewer system.
As a result, new development projects are designed to have less impact on the City’s storm sewer system than the developments they replace.
Remove water and moisture as quickly as possible. Remove damaged furniture, carpets and materials as soon as possible and ensure that affected areas are properly ventilated.
To reduce the risk of sewer backups, residents are asked to limit water usage until further notice:
- Avoid taking showers or baths;
- Postpone the use of washing machines and dishwashers;
- Limit the use of sinks;
- Avoid flushing toilets unnecessarily.
All sports and cultural activities at the Civic Centre, Aquatic Centre and Seniors’ Club are cancelled until further notice.
To check the status of other municipal facilities, please consult the Outdoor Facilities Conditions page.
We encourage residents to check in on their neighbours, particularly seniors, people with reduced mobility and those living alone. A simple phone call or visit can make a significant difference during times like these.
Updates will be posted regularly on the City’s website, Facebook and Instagram accounts, and distributed through the City’s newsletter.

The City Remains Available for residents
Any situation requiring municipal intervention may be reported to Municipal Patrol, available 24 hours a day at 514-684-6111. In case of emergency, call 911.
The City thanks all residents for their patience, cooperation and solidarity. Our teams continue their efforts in the field and remain committed to supporting the community throughout the recovery period.
The torrential rainfall of June 20 was of exceptional intensity. According to available data, between 100 and 170 mm of rain fell in some areas of the city within approximately one hour. This weather event was caused by a nearly stationary storm cell that remained over the area for an extended period, releasing an exceptional amount of rainfall over a relatively small territory.
As a result, the water level in Centennial Lake, the City’s main retention basin, rose by 2.25 metres in a very short period of time. Faced with such a large volume of water over such a short timeframe, several areas of the city experienced significant water accumulation and flooding.
City crews continue to actively carry out recovery operations following this exceptional weather event. Since the early hours of the morning, Public Works employees have been working in the field to support affected residents and restore services as quickly as possible.
Garbage and debris collection – Tuesday, June 23
Regular garbage collection will take place as scheduled tomorrow, Tuesday, June 23. Our collection contractor will focus its operations on household waste collection to ensure that all sectors are serviced throughout the day.
At the same time, the collection of flood-related debris will continue with six City crews deployed throughout the affected areas. These operations will continue over the coming days, and for as long as necessary, until recovery efforts are complete.
To help collection crews and speed up operations, residents are asked, whenever possible, to keep household garbage bags separate from debris resulting from the flooding.
Please note that debris collection may take place at a different time than regular garbage collection.
Closure of municipal facilities
Activities at the Civic Centre, AADDO, Seniors’ Club and Library remain suspended until further notice due to flood-related damage.
However, the Civic Centre arenas will reopen today at 3 p.m.
To check the status of other municipal facilities, including park chalets and sports fields, please visit the Outdoor Facilities Conditions page.
Thank you for your cooperation
We understand the challenges many residents are currently facing and want to assure you that the City remains fully mobilized.
We thank residents for their patience, understanding and solidarity with those affected by this event.
Additional updates will be provided as the situation evolves.
Following the torrential rains that hit the City yesterday, more than 70 streets in Dollard-des-Ormeaux were affected by flooding or significant water accumulation.
As soon as the first reports came in, Public Works and Municipal Patrol teams were mobilized to ensure residents’ safety and assist those affected by the flooding. They remained on the front lines late into the night to address the most urgent situations and secure the affected areas.
The City also worked closely with Hydro-Québec to support efforts to restore power as quickly as possible.
Teams resumed their activities at 7 a.m. this morning and are continuing their assessment work throughout the city. The City is currently developing its action plan for the coming days. Starting Monday morning, special operations will be implemented, including debris removal, street cleaning and the trimming of damaged trees.

We understand the difficulties many residents are currently facing. Rest assured that the City remains fully committed to supporting those affected and restoring services as quickly as possible.
A new update will be released tomorrow to provide an update on how the situation is developing.
The significant rainfall received today has caused water accumulation and flooding in several areas of Dollard-des-Ormeaux.
Since the first incidents were reported around 3 p.m., City teams have been mobilized in the field to monitor the situation, respond to calls, and intervene in the most affected areas. Municipal employees are working together to address reported issues and provide support to affected residents.
The City understands the challenges and concerns this situation may create for those impacted. We are closely monitoring developments and will continue our response efforts as long as necessary.
